Converging Towards A New Augustinian Recollect Educational Apostolate

Augustinian Recollect Educational Apostolate (AREA)Strategic Plan

I. THE OPERATIVE METAPHOR
Refreshing our memories of the place of origin of the Congregation's Foundresses which is Calumpit, Bulacan, the choice of the operative metaphor for the AR Education Apostolate was unanimous: flowing clean river with thriving trees. Calumpit derived the name of the hardwood trees called calumpit, found abundantly growing in front of the Calumpit Catholic Church. There also exist the calumpit river known for the variety fresh water lobster

VIII. POLICY STATEMENTS
Implementing guidelines for the stakeholders to understand fully the course of actions:
  1. The newly crafted vision of the Augustinian Recollect Educational Apostolate (AREA) shall be adopted by all member schools:
"A life-giving and innovating educational ministry committed to transforming the Community of learners into Christ-centered Augustinian Recollect stewards."
    • The member schools of the AREA shall uphold with full conviction our dream of becoming "a life-giving and innovating educational ministry committed to transforming community of learners into Christ-centered Augustinian Recollect Stewards. "

    • The AREA shall be life-giving and innovating. As a life-giving AREA, it shall have the dynamism and energy to make a difference in the education industry. It shall unleash a life force similar to the operative metaphors of a flowing river and a fruit-bearing tree.

    • As an innovating AREA, its stakeholders shall adopt a new mindset and a pervasive attitude which is focused beyond the present into the future. It shall master the art of welcoming risks.

    • Concrete efforts shall be given in cascading the vision of the AREA to the member schools and their stakeholders. Hence, each school shall launch the newly crafted vision and mission in creative ways so that all stakeholders can align their personal visions to AREA"s vision.

    • The core strategy, which is the major course of action to realize the vision is "Converging Towards a New Augustinian Recollect Educational Apostolate". It could be captured with a shortened version, "converging towards a new AREA" when there are assemblies and fora on education of the Congregation of Augustinian Recollects (CAR).

    • Converging shall mean that all member schools unite as the AREA. It also means a meeting of the minds and joining forces so that the strength within the AREA is strongest in any strategic alliance with any organization, and most potent in effecting change and development.

    • Convergence shall be typified by the osmotic relationship of the two operative metaphors, a body of water permeating a fruit-bearing tree. This means a member school of the AREA will not perpetually depend on the other schools for sustainability but will see to it that it will sustain its own operations after a period of time.

  2. The mission statements are commitments to actions. These are the expectations of the society from the AREA. The member schools shall work on convergence based on these shared missions. Hence, member schools shall commit to:

    • Strengthen fraternal charity through God-filled friendship and renewed evangelization.

    • Facilitate the integral development of the learners towards transformation through current researches, relevant curricular offerings and responsive community extension services.

    • Fortify leadership and professional development of stakeholders through continuing education and intensive Augustinian Recollect Spirituality.

    • Develop a community of Christ-centered Augustinian Recollect Stewards who are environmentally-caring global leaders.

    • Nurture one another in the shared mission for the sustainability of the AR schools and social relevance of programs and services.

  3. The first mission statement of strengthening fraternal charity through God-filled friendship and renewed evangelization is a commitment towards a life-giving AREA. Hence, the guidelines or policies of this mission is outlined in the foregoing:

    • Fraternal charity among member schools of the AREA shall be strengthened. Fraternal charity means sisterly/ brotherly love and has to manifest in the following manner: support, concern, care for one another, sharing of resources.

    • God-filled friendship shall mean relationship based on God’s love. We can say that there is God-filled friendship among the member schools and their stakeholders when there is camaraderie, support, respect and love.

    • Renewed Evangelization heeds the call of Pope Benedict XVI and shall adhere to the PCP II. For the AREA’s member schools, the renewed evangelization shall focus on: knowledge of and living out the Word of God, worship and mission (share this to others)

    • The functional strategy or course of action to realize the first mission statement is "holding on amidst difficulties". Just like our metaphors, they hold on during weather disturbances.

    • A member school shall not perpetually be dependent on the AREA for its viability. Plans shall be drawn and implemented to transform them into sustainable member schools and their operations shall be assessed as to their effectiveness and sustainability.

    • The banner or flagship program for the first mission statement is Evangelization and Culture Building.

      • The Evangelization shall include the following existing projects already in place like Christian Formation to include the recollections, retreats, formation and maintenance of the ARSC…

      • The Culture Building shall cover the efforts of the school to intensify or deepen the Augustinian Recollect Spirituality like the ARSC, heighten the awareness of the stakeholders on the mind, heart and soul of Saint Augustine and the AR’s Founders, and live out the Augustinian Spirituality.

      • The flagship program shall be evaluated regularly in order to establish the effectiveness of the program for continuous improvement. A body shall be assigned to do the evaluation of the program.

      • The first mission shall cultivate and advance the institutional values of Generosity/Service; Friendship/Belonging; and Faith/Risk/Vision/ Worship. The work ethics of the stakeholders shall be anchored from the aforementioned institutional values.

  4. The second mission statement is to "facilitate the integral development of the learners towards transformation" through current researches, relevant curricular offerings and responsive community extension services. This shall have the following guidelines:

    • The member schools of the AREA are member schools of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP). They shall participate actively in their respective regions and shall take advantage of their memberships in terms of the integral development of learners. Hence, access for educational assistance for integral development shall be assertively done.

    • Curricular offerings must be annually evaluated in close coordination with the local government oversight agencies like the CHED, DepEd, and TESDA. To ensure the relevance and responsiveness of curricular offerings, links shall be established with the local DTI, POEA and the business sector. Strategic alliances shall be forged and be covered by memorandum of understanding.

    • Tertiary member schools are challenged to submit to a higher level of accreditation. Although there is a functional strategy to be engaged in the second mission statement, the core strategy of "converging for a new AREA" can be followed.

    • The faculty of each member school shall be encouraged to undertake researches veering away from descriptive researches to multi-disciplinary and quasi-experimental researches. Such research shall be submitted to the AREA for approval so that research funds could be accessed for financial assistance.

    • The member schools shall pursue their community extension services ensuring that these are highly relevant by determining the real needs of the community in close coordination with local officials and the DILG.

    • The functional strategy or course of action that shall be engaged in the second mission statement is "streamlining development efforts". Streamlining is defined as creating a contour designed to offer the least resistance in moving through air or water. In the context of the AREA, this will mean that it is purposively implementing the operational plans using the strategic plan as the contour or shape.

    • Member schools of the AREA shall closely align their operational plans to the strategic plan. There shall be no deviations from the strategic plan if streamlining of development of efforts is carried out.

    • The Superintendent and her Secretariat shall take the necessary measures to ensure that the deviations are corrected immediately prior to implementation of any operational plan.

    • The flagship program is CARS; it stands for: Co-curricular, Academic, Research & Services. Existing and new projects shall be categorized accordingly using the flagship program – CARS – as the umbrella.

    • The institutional values of Academic Excellence, Research, Education Certification/Insight and Community Supportive/Personalist shall be lived out by the key stakeholders of the member schools. It then becomes unethical if the key stakeholders will not observe and practice the aforementioned institutional values.

  5. The third mission statement is to "fortify leadership and professional development of stakeholders through continuing education and intensive Augustinian Recollect Spirituality". The following policies shall be adhered to:

    • Leadership and professional development shall be fortified through the deepening of the Augustinian Recollect Spirituality and continuing professional development. This will mean strengthening the foundation of stakeholders through the Augustinian Recollect Spirituality and the professional development through competency building.

    • The Augustinian Recollect Spirituality shall be revitalized or rejuvenated in the light of contemporary issues. The Augustinian Recollect Spirituality must be incarnated among the key stakeholders so that learners can palpably assimilate this spirituality. The functioning of the key stakeholders is defined by the Augustinian Recollect Spirituality of fraternal charity, prayerfulness, using scientific means for the benefit of mankind (Patria, Virtus, Sciencia)…

    • The functional strategy of the third mission is "engaging strategic alliances". This shall entail an environmental scanning wherein the strengths/weaknesses of potential alliance shall be considered. The AREA shall take into consideration and validate their own identified strengths and weaknesses in the Strategic Planning.

    • The AREA shall bank on their strength in negotiating with their strategic alliances to address their weaknesses. The relationship shall be a win-win relationship for both parties, mutually and synergistically beneficial.

    • The strategic alliances shall be pursued by the AREA not only for the continuing professional development and deepening of Augustinian Spirituality but also for the anchoring of services and subcontracting services which cannot be done within the AREA.

    • The strategic alliance shall be initiated with the brother congregation, the Order of Augustinian Recollect (OAR). Sharing the same roots and charism, the AREA shall think audaciously and act wiseheartedly in the strategic alliances.

    • These strategic alliances shall be pursued in the spirit of "coopetition". This is a business concept that banks on both cooperation and competition. There is coopetition when both allies cooperate to create a shrinking pie, but will compete healthily when dividing this pie.

    • The flagship program of the third mission statement is Human Development. It shall attend to the well-being of its key stakeholders, including their physical and psycho-socio spiritual development.

    • The operative values for the mission to be realized are Friendship/Belonging for the strategic alliance with other institutions, Faith/Risk/Vision, Community Personalist/Supportive and Care/Nurture.

  6. The fourth mission statement is to develop a community of Christ-centered Augustinian Recollect Stewards who are environmentally caring and global leaders. The stakeholders of the AREA shall be guided by the following policies:

    • The focus for community development is the growth of stakeholders into Christ-centered Augustinian Recollect Stewards (CARS) who are environmentally caring and global leaders.

    • The growth and development of stakeholders into CARS shall materialize when we see the following indicators:

      • There is the willingness to challenge people’s thinking by respecting individual values and creating opportunities for people to align and realign their values to those of the institutions.

      • The presence of Christ is felt especially when a stakeholder addresses the challenge of changing oneself first and pursuing the path to holiness with Saint Augustine, the Founders and Patron Saints as models.

      • There is an effective evangelization that is directed at upholding the shared vision of the AREA.

      • There is a high level of selflessness wherein a new style of leadership and management shall be defined and characterized by being vision driven, integrated/whole; there is fraternal charity, and there is compassion that blends with best scientific thinking (Patria, Virtus, Sciencia).

      • The stakeholders are at peace yet highly energetic and forceful in pursuing integral development of learners, achieving academic excellence, doing researches, involving themselves in community outreach and arriving at decisions after a communal discernment.

      • Each stakeholder can go beyond what they can give so that each one will succeed in becoming CARS and what they want to be.

      • The fruits of the AREA’s services shall manifest not only in the individual lives of stakeholders but also of others in the shared mission. All stakeholders have a direct experiencing of epiphany, thus facilitating their evangelization.

      • The key stakeholders are freed from enslaving encumbrances of material possessions, belief systems, and practices rendered dysfunctional in modern times.

    • With the current issues on global warming and environmental degradation, a Christ-centered Augustinian Recollect Steward shall manifest care for the environment and have a global perspective. A global leader is described as one who has comprehensive knowledge or has competence recognized beyond the locality.

    • The mission shall engage two functional strategies: Revitalizing environment-friendly programs and Branching out towards global literacies. Hence, concrete efforts shall be done to invigorate the environment friendly program. Like the fruit-bearing tree, the AREA shall explore new literacies which could be included in the course offerings or services.

    • The flagship program is Christian Social Responsibility. It shall cover projects which will inculcate among stakeholders the fulfillment or completion of work for which they are accountable for, honor deep obligations and be upright citizens who love their country.

    • The institutional values to be lived by are Value Innovation, and Community Personalist/Supportive.

  7. The fifth mission statement is to nurture one another in the shared mission for the sustainability of the AR schools and social relevance of programs and services. It shall adhere to the following guidelines to wit:

    • Prizing and honoring one another for extraordinary accomplishments and best practices in the shared mission shall be done in assemblies. This is to encourage member schools to make a difference or excel in their endeavors.

    • Sustainability of the AR schools shall be given outmost importance. Hence, key stakeholders are encouraged and enjoined to participate in the marketing of their course offerings and services.

    • The social relevance of the AREA’s programs and services shall be pursued by interfacing with major industries in determining the employability of its graduates.

    • The functional strategy is mainstreaming operations. Mainstreaming of AREA's operations shall mean bringing along member schools to a meeting ground or capturing the main strength of the AREA which will be capitalized by the member schools to sustain their operations.

    • Painstaking efforts shall be done to sustain the operations of the viable member schools of the AREA. These member schools shall be regarded as the flagship schools in the niching in the education industry.

    • The simultaneous pursuit of differentiation and lowering of operational costs shall be pursued for the sustainability and social relevance of programs and offerings.

    • The flagship program of the fifth mission is Resource Management. This shall include income generating projects and resource mobilization through proper accounting and setting financial controls.

    • The values which shall be operative are Care/Nurture and Value Innovation.

Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, a chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness.
But the moment one definitely commits, then Providence moves to help

Whatever you can do you can, begin it.
Boldness has magic in it.
